Used Cooking Oil (UCO)
A valuable raw material
Used Cooking Oil (UCO)
Used cooking oil (UCO) can be referred to by a variety of different terms – including waste cooking oil, used frying oil, yellow grease etc – however these all refer to the same commodity; purified oils and fats of plant and animal origin that have been used to cook food. Biodiesel can be made from recycled cooking oils. This is a sustainable way of creating fuels and the collection is crucial to the supply of biodiesel feedstock.
Sourcing and trading
VIRGO GLOBAL ENERGY is active in the used cooking oil sourcing and trading business. We currently source from several locations and mainly serve the European markets.
Main types of UCO
Every collector has to perform a pre-treatment after the collection consisting of filtering, heating above 50ºC and subsequent decantation to eliminate solid residues, impurities and water.
